The Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge opened to traffic on July 3, 1937. The bridge’s name honors Gil Hodges, who played baseball for the Brooklyn (and Los Angeles) Dodgers for 14 years and managed the New York Mets to its first world series in 1969.
